From our experience gained in the field we would advise the following:
  • Shot placement is more important than calibre. Bring a rifle that you are comfortable with and good penetration and accuracy. African animals are tough and do not bleed excessively.
  • Buffaloes specifically need a rifle calibre of 375 H&H and bigger.
  • For plains game we recommend rifle in the 300 calibre and upwards. 40 rounds should be adequate. 
  • Buy premium bullets.

RIFLE IMPORTATION SERVICES


We will assist you with the documentation to import your rifle and apply for the permit on your behalf free of charge if you provide us the necessary documentation for permit application listed below. We will have your letter of invitation available with us on your arrival.

  • A copy of passport
  • Stamped custom declaration fo rm DA4457 (US)
  • Airline itinerary

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NOTE
  • A Temporary Import Permit (SAPS 520) from the South African Police services is required to bring a rifle into South Africa. This permit is issued on your arrival in Johannesburg.
  • You are allowed to bring two rifles per person (not the same calibre) and 5lb of ammunition for each rifle.
  • No semi automatic / automatic rifles or two rifles of the same calibre are allowed.

RIFLE BROKERS
